How Subsistence Communities Reconfigure Livelihood Systems in Response to Climate Change: A Coupled-Systems Perspective

A defining societal challenge in the era of climate change is ensuring consumption adequacy subsistence communities. To understand intricacies this challenge, we have conducted an ethnographic study a low-income community that relies on fishing to maintain adequacy. Based our data analysis, advance conceptualization livelihood systems models tight coupling among its three constituent subsystems: market system, social and environmental system. These subsystems are highly interdependent operate concert We then show how change-induced disruptions threaten by disequilibrating settings, as well unpack self-directed adaptation mitigation strategies employed response threat inadequacy. create feedback loops either preserve or attenuate subsystems.
